Everyone has their own opinion on the matter. For me, since I own the minimum amount of trust points, my cost per point is much higher if you factor in the Exchange fees. For others, some feel that the Trust points have access to a “bigger” pool of properties. When the program first started, I was told that I didn't have enough trust points to make a reservation. I was mad becuase I was told that trust and legacy were the same but for some reason, Marriott hasn't made the transition complete yet. Sometimes you can get a reservation more quickly if you have trust points as their might be more availability with that pool. Then, there's the pure fact that Trust points cost more. Right now, my legacy points cost me about .34 per point in mainteance fees. The Trust points, just using the straight fee with no exchange fee would be .41 per point. Then, factor in transaction costs of 3% for Paypal and the fact that people need some profit to give up the use of their point. I think fair value of points should be anywhere from 60% to 80% above whatever it costs you. This means for me, I'd rent my legacy points for .55 to .60 a point. I'd rent my trust points for .65 to .75 a point. But that's just me. I recently rented my trust points for .60 because I didn't want to have to worry about them in 2013 and now I have the money to pay my maintenance fees, including exchange fee.
