If there were not members in the club, would your plan still work? Somebody's got to lead the way. There are so many reasons why people buy timeshares and/or shares in a vacation club. Who's to say those decisions were good or bad. I'm sure there are some who regret it, but likely for every one of those, there are several who love it, as the commitment they made motivates them to take great vacations to wonderful places allowing them to rejuvenate, help them to reconnect with family and friends, etc., etc., etc. Will you rent every single year? Who knows? It's easier to say, let's put it off till next year if you have no skin in the game. But if you were a member, it's far more likely you would vacation every year. I know I have since I became a member and have not regretted it for a second. Also, by being a member, I can control when I book, where I book, I can make decisions on the fly to make sure I can secure the exact vacation that I want. I am not dependent on somebody else to hopefully be quick enough and patient enough to work with me to get the reservation I was hoping for. Again, there are a lot of variables. Why do I own a car, instead of just renting one when I need one? Convenience is the likely answer. Then again, when I drop the top down on my TT and feel the wind in my h....well, bald head, I love it. It puts a smile on my face. Same smile I get when I am staying at one of the Marriott Vacation Club locations. ;DI say, to each their own!! If you are an owner/member great, if you want to rent from owner/members, that's great too.
