The Marriott Grand Residence at Lake Tahoe is my home resort.  I have been an owner there for the last 4 years, but have been a regular Lake Tahoe visitor for the last 25 years.  I do know TimG, by the way.  Awesome, helpful gent!  I thought I would hijack his thread and share a bit of my own insight.South Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place to visit year round.  The busiest times (and thus higher prices and limited availability) are Christmas/New Years and around 4th of July.  For a relaxing trip, the best times to visit are spring and fall. The restaurants are not crowded and there is more availability at the Marriott.Ski season is what many people think of when they think of Tahoe.  There are at least 6 world class resorts within an hours drive of South Lake (Heavenly, Kirkwood, Sierra at Tahoe, Northstar, Alpine Meadows, and Squaw Valley.)  There are also quite a few other smaller ski resorts also within an hour's drive.  For convenience's sake, you can't beat Heavenly Ski Resort.  The Heavenly Gondola is literally right outside the door of the Marriott  Grand Residence and the Timber Lodge.Other popular activities include boat rides, hiking, jet skiing, spas, destination weddings, gambling, shows, and seasonal activities. The drive Lake Tahoe is about 72 miles and is broken up in to basically 3 different areas (for lodging's sake, at least).  Tahoe City and Incline Village are on the north side of the lake while South Lake Tahoe/Stateline are on the south side.  South Lake Tahoe/Stateline is a bit more built up and has more restaurants, attractions, and hotels.  The roads to and around Tahoe are all good and most are open 365 days per year, though big snow storms can temporarily close a few of the roads until they can be plowed.  Driving time includes:

  • Reno to Tahoe - 90 minutes
  • San Francisco to Tahoe - about 3.5 hours
  • Sacramento to Tahoe - 90 - 110 minutes
  • Las Vegas to Tahoe - 8 hours

If you can't tell, I love Lake Tahoe.  ;D
